Sure, Kinja ain't perfect as it is now, but at least the comments work.. Sure, the private view is fraked up as hell, but a refresh or five fix that...
NOW however, some major nutter at gawker have decided that "oh noes, the members of our communitys can make comments WAY TO EASY.. let's give them a system that does not work...
I say we stand up to them.. Let' just keep things as is yeah? Make the current iteration of kinja work BEFORE you make a new one..

You enjoy exercises in futility?

Post pictures of sad kittens and puppies on every post to protest the new comment system.
Like so:

I've spent the last ten years trying to get fit... so.. yes.. :P

Did you get kinjaed on purpose there mate?
![]() 12/16/2013 at 18:05 |

I'm with you on that one.

Is Gawker going to force us to use the new commenting system or will the old one stay there as option as happened with the editor?
![]() 12/16/2013 at 18:06 |
|
Not sure, but this IS Gawker.. so they will probably force us.
![]() 12/16/2013 at 18:07 |

There's no bargaining or reasoning with the dear supreme leader overlord fuhrers of Kinja.
![]() 12/16/2013 at 18:07 |

They're on to me, but I fixed it. All you do is click on "edit" and then save again. That usually fixes a Kinja'd picture. All the more reason to kick this sad puppy campaign up on the FP and other Gawker sites.
![]() 12/16/2013 at 18:09 |

aeh.. look at his/hers face... So cute :)
But yeah, Gawker needs to fix things, and not ny making new shit every other month..

Not even if the whole oppo community signs? I'd guess we're a rather large part of the whole thing.
12/16/2013 at 18:10 |
|
Let's keep fingers crossed that this isn't the case. Who's in charge of these redesigns anyway this new commenting system is probably the most complicated I've seen till this day.

We're nothing compared to bottomless pits of death and trolls that are the other parts of Kinja.

I sent an e-mail to Steve Climaco, he's one of the guys at the tech/help thingy.. But I guess it wont help.. e-mail

Here's all the ammo you should need to help in the campaign.

Too bad Jalopnik can't spin off Gawker like Wonkette and Fleshbot did; both of those former Gawker sites now use Disqus for commenting.
![]() 12/16/2013 at 18:16 |

I'd prefer if everyone would stop bitching about every little change. Sure, sometimes it's not for the better, but every time there's something different, it's 3 goddamn days of "OH NOES!!!111!11!11" and "FUCK YOU KINJA!!!!!!!" rage posting. IMHO, that's worse than the changes themselves.
When something changes, there's usually an accompanying blog post on product.kinja.com - it'd be nice if everyone would go complain there instead.
Now that I'm done with that, have a pony.

I'd point out that the whole idea of a "beta" is to get useful and constructive help before anything goes live.

Completely related to my other reply, is this a good time to plug my Oppo userscript?

I somewhat agree, but this new commenting system is just bollocks, utterly bollocks..
You can't see who's answered what you wrote or anything... It seems to me like they change tuff just to change stuff... not to make things better. And Gawker helpdesk haven't given us anything so far.
![]() 12/16/2013 at 18:21 |
|
I understand that Matt, but why on earth would you change how the commenting works? Why not fix stuff that does not work first?
The commenting system actually works, well.. almost..
![]() 12/16/2013 at 18:22 |

Would that work on a system running Linux Mint Maya? With Chromium as a browser?
![]() 12/16/2013 at 18:31 |
|
If Gawker could just make the current system work without borking pictures, I'd be happy. Can they at least get the current system to work properly before fucking around with it?
![]() 12/16/2013 at 18:31 |
|
But is Disqus any better?
![]() 12/16/2013 at 18:32 |
|
Kinda my point.. They seem to HATE the user..
![]() 12/16/2013 at 18:33 |
|
Because "well almost."
![]() 12/16/2013 at 18:42 |

A petition ... good one!
:D
![]() 12/16/2013 at 18:55 |

It's better than Kinja, but of course the bar isn't that high.
![]() 12/16/2013 at 19:00 |
|
Fair point I guess.. but the comment system DO work rather well in Kinja...
![]() 12/16/2013 at 19:24 |
|
I would love jalopnik so much more if they broke off from the Gawker collective
![]() 12/16/2013 at 19:28 |
|
two things
1. Most criticism I see anytime theres an update involves lots of exclamation marks and profane words instead of well constructed sentences. I guess in a way this does get a point across about how people feel when it comes to updates
2. Would it be possible to have a test kinja page so people can preview new updates and comment on them before it just appears on jalop/oppo? That might help cut down on #1.
![]() 12/16/2013 at 19:58 |
|
It should, yes, with a recent enough version of Chromium and the Tampermonkey plugin.
![]() 12/16/2013 at 20:22 |
|
Sweet.. I'll try it then :)
![]() 12/16/2013 at 20:49 |
|
Except...we're all greyed out on product.kinja.com so commenting is little more than spitting down a well.
![]() 12/16/2013 at 21:06 |
|
Even if you're grayed out, the OP is notified that you've posted and they'll likely review all of the comments on a product change post. It's just that your comments may not be seen by other users.
![]() 12/16/2013 at 21:15 |
|
Ok, that's true. So I went over to product.kinja.com and looked at the posting and replies for the Faaaabulous new format. The vast majority of the posters seem to agree that the new format, in fact, stinks. And my dime says that the Star Chamber at Gawker Galactic HQ will, in fact, ignore this opinion and go forth with the new hot mess anyway.
![]() 12/17/2013 at 08:54 |
|
Good idea, if you go to the product page you'll see that they're often posting links to Beta items (like this to play around with.
![]() 12/17/2013 at 10:21 |
|
I definitely support it, ValleyWag is perpetually in a state of beta but it might be helpful to have there be a "testbench" area where writers and readers can fiddle around to find what works.
![]() 12/17/2013 at 11:16 |
|
Gawker: brought to you by the same people that created the Obeymecare website...
![]() 12/17/2013 at 11:20 |
|
thats right I forgot we had a "kinja" kinja
theres so many kinjas to keep track of! Maybe we need index.kinja for an index of all the kinjas
![]() 12/17/2013 at 13:31 |
|
The trick is, it seems like all Kinja-related beta releases eventually go live with only about 1/3 of their problems resolved, and then we get half a year of us shouting for the other 2/3 of useful features to return while the tech team works gamely to make it happen. By the time they finish it seems like the next "innovation" is already in the pipeline. If the Gawker Media tech guys ever need another job, they could probably get it keeping up with Formula One technical regulations.

I don't think they hate the user. They just don't want to get laid off. My roommate works for the government. The department heads come up with useless shit to overhaul that doesn't need overhauling every 2 or 3 years so they can make the big wigs think they are earning their paycheck. He, and all of his coworkers just buy a lot of Advil and go into mourning.
